February 24th 2023 - Composting
We have been learning about composting this week. Composting is where we allow unused food to decompose and break down over a long time. This compost can then be used to provide food (nutrients) to grow new plants which we can eat.
We can compost lots of food such as vegetables, fruit, grass cuttings, small twigs, tea bags, shredded newspaper - in fact anything that once grew, can be recycled.
We sorted items into compostable and non-compostable columns.
We created our own mini-compost bin and put some worms into it to help it decompose. We will keep an eye on it weekly to check how it changes.
