School will close at 12 on Friday 22nd of December & reopen at 9.20 on Monday January 8th.
Thank you all for taking part in the cake sale.Go raibh maith agaibh go léir. Photos and video clips will be posted on the " Gaelbratach" section of the website over the holidays ,which can be found under School Activities. We will have more activities during Seachtain na Gaeilge ( Which is actually a fortnight of Irish and not an Irish Week!) This is a reminder of what the Gaelbhratach is about.
The Gaelbhratach scheme aims to promote the use of spoken Irish. It is aimed at mainstream primary schools where the language of instruction is English.
Its purpose is to:
● Support the work of the teachers following the Conversational Course for the Irish language as laid down by the Department of Education and Skills and which forms part of the School Plan and the daily program.
● Encourage use of conversational Irish as a natural part of school life;
● Ensure certain language formulae relevant to school routine, e.g. roll call, lunch, clean up, lining up etc., are agreed in the school plan and used progressively from class to class and from year to year;
● Promote regular opportunities for the school community, both staff and children, to enhance their vocabulary and to use the Irish language.
● Recognise the central role of the parents and encourage their support and participation by keeping them informed about the scheme, by providing material to help them and by welcoming relevant material from them
Photos and Video Clips of Carol singing will also be uploaded during the holidays and the amount of money raised for The Bumbleance and Cenacolo Community will be on the website at that time. Well done to everyone involved; Singers from Manister National School, Tina's Guitar Students and Tina Keyes. Thank you also to the parents who helped with the collection and their helpers who gave out stickers.

Third, fourth , fifth and sixth class did a brilliant job setting up the halla yesterday and decorating it with pieces of art from the school. Unfortunately , due to the power outage we didnt have a chance to draw your attention to these. However , we will have some on display in the church which you can admire during the Christmas period.
Thank you to everyone who helped us prepare for the show, Trina, Chloe, Marie McCabe, Teachers, parents and those who donated spot prizes for the raffle. Mary's hair salon, Plunketts pharmacy, Brodericks Spar in Croom, Annacotty Farm Shop and other business donated prizes. Tomorrow we will hold the raffle which should have gone ahead last night and put the winning tickets on display here as well as sending a text with details. There may be people who bought tickets who are not part of our 'text a parent' system so please pass on details to anyone you know of.
The Seven little Penguins, Icicles, Robbers and Policepeople were brilliant last night. Well done to everyone involved. Special credit goes to Ms Gleeson as well as Trina for this production as the infants have not done their own play since 2011 and it was a huge undertaking. You were all amazing !
Thanks again to third, fourth, fifth and sixth class who also tidied up the halla today by putting the chairs away and taking down all of the art.
We will decide after the Christmas holidays on possible dates for the plays in January.
Thank you all for your help and support. Ní neart go cur le chéile!

Congratulations to the 9 pupils who scored more than 150 points on Mangahigh during the recent Maths Week. Well done Ella, Sinéad, Sophia, Niall, Eimear, Jack, Terri, Harry and Conor. They were presented with their medals today. Some huge scores were notched up but we have got to give Jack a special mention for achieving a phenomenal score of 365 points. Should he have got two medals? In total, Manister pupils spent 91 hours practicing their maths on Mangahigh during maths week and a total of 972 activities were tackled. This can only help with your mental maths abilities in the future. Remember that you can practice on Mangahigh at any time. |

Below is an incredibly detailed image of the moon taken especially for Manister National School on the TARA Telescopes in Blackrock Observatory, Cork during Space Week at the beginning of October.
There are lots of craters visible on the image. There are way more craters on the moon than on earth. This is because earth has an atmosphere which burns up any asteroids before they hit earth - lucky for us! The moon has no atmosphere so is frequently hit by asteroids resulting in the many craters you can see - unlucky for you if you live on the moon!

Thanks to everyone who supported our school garden vegetable sale this morning. It was lovely to get together as a community. A special thanks to the pupils who came into school early to set up and to man the vegetable stall.
We raised the grand sum of €96.40 according to our shopkeepers - don't tell the taxman . This will go towards purchasing a new set of jerseys for our school teams.
Enjoy the carrot soup and stew over the weekend.

Maths Week Oct 14th to 22nd 2017
Maths Week starts this Saturday. We will have a number of activities in the school to promote maths. All pupils from 1st to 6th classes have been given usernames and passwords for Mangahigh.com. This is a games-based learning site, where students learn Mathematics via purpose-built casual games that balance fun and learning. It is normally subscription accessed but for maths week it is free. For every activity you attempt during maths week on the site you get between 1 and 3 points. If you accrue more than 150 points you get a really nice medal. Last year we had six pupils who achieved this mark. Let's see if we can beat that this year. Pupils can log in here https://app.mangahigh.com/en-gb/login Once logged in just go over to Browse all Activities to select whichever activity you want to try. Or you can go into the Games Centre and try some of the fun maths games there. |

It was a very disappointing day for our footballers in Martinstown today. After victories over Martinstown and Emly and a close loss to Ballyagran we found that we were one of three teams which had won two of their matches and so finished level. We missed out to Ballyagran in the draw to go through to the final, which meant we had to play Martinstown for a second time for the other final place.
In a thrilling match the scores were tied after full time so it went to "sudden death". Unfortunately for us Martinstown got the next score so were were knocked out. It was truly devastating. All our players truly excelled themselves on the pitch and it was a cruel way to lose out on a final place. We have another tournament in a few weeks time so let's hope we can go one better then.
