Numeracy

Numeracy

Our school is very well resourced in terms of concrete materials which the children use to help with their understanding of the various strands in the Mathematics Curriculum. As part of our aim to maintain and improve the Numeracy standards in the school, we have introduced a number of initiatives in the school. These include:

  • Every Maths lesson to start with an oral Maths game to encompass tables which the children are learning and also other topics which the teacher will have taught.
  • All classrooms have a Maths Corner which consists of various words and pictures associated with Numeracy, a problem solving approach, a practical activity for the children to attempt and a weekly Maths trail based on the classroom or the school environment.
  • Numeracy Topics are displayed on a Maths Display Board in the school corridor so the children will have access to this when learning about a certain topic. (eg: Weight)
  • A certain amount of time is allowed each week to integrate Mathematics and ICT. The school has a wide and varied range of Mathematics software for each class level to use to help in their understanding of the strands of the Curriculum.
